The Mill House
The Mill House is a one-and-a-half acre garden on the site of an old mill in Pendoggett, about two miles from Port Isaac on the north Cornwall coast. As the crow flies, it is about a mile inland and so misses the worst of the damage that can be inflicted by the sea winds although it is not entirely immune.
The Mill House is getting on for 30 years old, a rebuild of the former working Penquite Mill. We (Trish and Jeremy Gibson) lived there from December 2003 to July 2013. We inherited a garden that was partially landscaped and planted, with a mill pond, several smaller ponds, and a small stream running through.

Summer garden
We made a lot of changes, and planted extensively, despite the trampling from our boisterous young pointer dogs. For a family wedding in the summer of 2009 we created a new summer flower garden, a courtyard entrance garden, and laid paths down the sloping ground to make the going easier throughout the year.
We also developed the woodland garden, added vegetable and soft fruits areas, and constructed two small bridges crossing the stream. We kept Marans chickens in the field at the lower end of the garden.
